He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 74th Highlanders.1 He gained the rank of Officer between 1848 and 1854 in the 94th Regiment.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Madras between 1850 and 1855.1 He gained the rank of Officer in the a Black Regiment in Charleston, South Carolina.1 He fought in the American Civil War.1 In 1866 he was jailed for defrauding a black of his pension.1 He succeeded as the 11th Baronet Stonhouse [E., 1670] on 30 January 1866.1 He succeeded as the 14th Baronet Stonhouse, of Radley, Berkshire [E., 1628] on 30 January 1866.1 He was a magistrate and teacher in a black school at St. Stephen’s, Berkley County, South Carolina, U.S.A.1 He was a clerk, bookkeeper and postmaster until dismissed for inattention to duty at Trial, Berkley County, South Carolina, U.S.A.1
