Sir Esler Maberley Dening1 
Sir Esler Maberley Dening was born on 21 April 1897.1 He was the son of Walter Dening and Lydia Norman James.1 He died on 29 January 1977 at age 79.1 An inquest post mortem was held for his in 1950 Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)1
He fought in the First World War between 1915 and 1919, with the Australian Imperial Forces, in Egypt and France.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was with HM Consular Service between 1920 and 1938.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1939.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1945.1 He held the office of Assistant Under-Secretary of State, Foreign Office between 1946 and 1950.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Japan between 1952 and 1957.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1955.1 He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan in 1964.1
