     Captain John Scarlett Shiffner was born on 21 August 1910.¹ He was the son of George Bridger Shiffner and Georgiana Mary Scarlett.² He married Margaret Harriet Tullis, daughter of George Smith Tullis, on 11 January 1940.¹ He died on 30 September 1980 at age 70.^1,3
     He was educated at Royal Naval College, Darmouth, Devon, England.¹ He was educated at Royal Naval Engineering College, Keyham, England^G.¹ He was registered as a Associate Member, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (A.M.I.Mech.E.)¹ He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.¹

     George Smith Tullis lived at Strathenry, Leslie, Fife, Scotland.¹

     Margaret Harriet Tullis was the daughter of George Smith Tullis.² She married Captain John Scarlett Shiffner, son of George Bridger Shiffner and Georgiana Mary Scarlett, on 11 January 1940.¹ She died in 2000.¹
     From 11 January 1940, her married name became Shiffner.
