He fought in the Persian Campaign in 1856.1 He gained the rank of officer in the Indian Navy.1 He fought in the Afghan War in 1880.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Indian Army.1 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Seton, of Pitmedden, co. Aberdeen [N.S., 1684] on 28 September 1884.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Aberdeenshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Aberdeenshire.1

Aberdeen [N.S., 1684] on 5 March 1914.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 2nd Gordon Highlanders.1 He fought in the Second World War.1
