He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Chester.2 He was given the name of Richard Wilbraham at birth.1 Circa 1753 his name was legally changed to Richard Wilbraham-Bootle.1

William Arden, 2nd Baron Alvanley1 
He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Alvanley, of Alvanley, co. Chester [U.K., 1801] on 26 March 1804.1 He gained the rank of officer in the Coldstream Guards.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 50th Regiment of Foot.1 In May 1855 he fought a duel with Morgan John O’Connell, whose father he asserted to have been “purchased” by Lord Melbourne on his accession to office, and who had called him “a bloated buffoon.”1
He was well known as a wit and a spendthrift.1

He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the army.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Alvanley, of Alvanley, co. Chester [U.K., 1801] on 16 November 1849.1
On his death, the Barony of Alvanley became extinct.1
