Archibald Riddell was born on 2 April 1882.1 He was the son of James Riddell and Harriet Anne Stephen.2 He married Edith Mary Lawrie, daughter of William M. Lawrie, on 11 February 1907.1 He died on 30 December 1970 at age 88.1
He fought in the Boer War.1 He fought in the First World War, in Mesopotamia and Palestine, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Punjab Regiment, Indian Army.1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign in 1921, where he was mentioned in despatches.1
