He was president of the U.K. Chamber of Shipping between 1916 and 1918.1 He was the head of Raeburn and Vérel Limited (shipowners) at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1918.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dunbartonshire between 1918 and 1923.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glasgow and Dunbartonshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He was a trustee for the National Galleries of Scotland between 1922 and 1928.1 He was created 1st Baronet Raeburn, of Helensburgh, co. Dunbarton [U.K.] on 25 July 1923.1
