     John Henry Monsell Furse was born in 1860 at Windsor, Surrey, England.¹ He was the son of Venerable Charles Wellington Furse and Jane Diana Monsell.¹ He married Ethel Dolignon, daughter of Reverend John William Dolignon and Emily Augusta Reynolds Montagu, on 16 December 1886 at St. George Hanover Square, London, England.¹ He died in 1959.¹

     He lived at Bucknell, Shropshire, England.¹ In 1633 he claimed descent from Rhys ap Tewdwr Mawr (‘The Great’), a pre-English Conquest ruler of Deheubarth (South Wales) and was allowed armorial bearings attributed by tradition to Rhys at the Heralds’ Visitation.¹
