He was Clerk of Dundee between 1633 and 1675.1 He was Commissioner to sign the Treaty of Ripon in 1641.1 He was appointed Knight in 1646.1 He was a deputy to King Charles I at Newcastle in 1646.1 He was Commissioner from Scottish Parliament to London to negotiate union in 1653.1 He lived at Blackness, Forfar, Scotland.1
