Sir John Lauder of Fountainhall, 1st Bt.1 
He was a merchant and burgess at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He held the office of Baillie of Edinburgh between 1657 and 1661.1 He purchased the Newington estate, near Edinburgh, and the Woodhead, Templehall and other estates in Counties Edinburgh and Haddington (which were erected in his favour into the Barony of Fountainhall in 1681) in 1672.1 He was created 1st Baronet Lauder, of Fountainhall, co. Haddington [Nova Scotia] on 25 January 1690, with remainder to the heirs male of his body and his heirs male ‘successive.1‘
