     Sir Hugh Nugent, 1st Bt. was born in 1741.1 He is the son of James O’Reilly and Barbara Nugent.2 He married Catharine Mary Anne Mathew, daughter of Charles Mathew, on 2 June 1781.1 He died on 18 October 1821.1
     He was given the name of Hugh O’Reilly at birth.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Westmeath Militia.1 He was created 1st Baronet O’Reilly, of Ballinlough Castle, co. Westmeath [Ireland] on 23 July 1795.1 On 11 September 1812 his name was legally changed to Hugh Nugent by Royal Licence, on the death of his maternal uncle, John Nugent.2
