He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.1 He was Secretary of the Committee on Rifled Cannon in 1858.1 He was Secretary of the Committee on Plates and Guns in 1859.1 He was Assistant Inspector of Artillery in 1860.1 He was with Sir W G Armstrong & Co in 1860.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Chemical Society (F.C.S.)1 He was member of 1st Committee on Explosives in 1880.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1881.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1893.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1896.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Northumberland.1 He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Society of the Chemical Industry.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Northumberland.1 He was created 1st Baronet Noble, of Ardmore and Ardardan Noble, Cardross, co.
