     Ellen Anne Baker was born on 15 July 1843 at Jersey, Channel Islands.¹ She was the daughter of George Baker and Hannah Hough.¹ She married James Duff Hewett, son of Lt.-Col. William Hewett and Sarah Duff, on 6 September 1858 at Nelson, New Zealand.¹ She died on 14 February 1926 at age 82 at Auckland, New Zealand.¹ She was buried at Purewa Cemetery, Auckland, New Zealand.¹
     She emigrated with his parents to Nelson, New Zealand, arriving on 1855 on board the Earl of Sefton.¹ From 6 September 1858, her married name became Hewett.¹
