     George Somes Layard was born on 4 February 1857.1 He was the son of Reverend Charles Clement Layard and Sarah Somes.1 He married Mary Byng Gribble, daughter of Thomas Gribble, on 8 October 1885.1 He died on 30 May 1925 at age 68.1
     He was educated at Monkton Combe, Somerset, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1881 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1881 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was biographer of Kate Greenaway.1 He lived at Bull’s Cliff, Felixstowe, Suffolk, England.1

     She was also known as Eleanor Byng Gribble.2 From 8 October 1885, her married name became Layard.1
