     Neil MacKellar was born on 3 April 1769 at Glassary, Argyllshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of Neil MacKellar of Dail and Elizabeth Campbell.1 He died in 1802, at sea on board Caroline.1
     He was commissioned on 21 April 1791 with the rank of Ensign, in the service of the New South Wales Corps.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in November 1795.2 He was secretary and aide-de-camp to the Governor of New South Wales in September 1800, Philip King.2 He gained the rank of Captain in October 1800.2
