Captain Archibald Maclaine, 18th of Lochbuie1 
He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1776 in the 1st Battalion, 84th Royal Highland Emigrant Regiment.1 In 1776 he received control of the Lochbuie lands from his father.1 On 31 May 1776 by an entail, he named the whole future succession to chiefship and possession of Lochbuie and the barony of Moy, namely, in order, to his own lawful heirs-male, then the lawful heirs-male of Gillean Maclaine of Scallastle, of John maclean of Gruline, Alan Maclaine, elder brother of Captain Murdoch Maclaine, of Murdoch Maclaine of Kilmory, of Hugh Maclean of Kingairloch and of Allan Maclean in Scallastle, later of Glasgow.1 In 1776 he put the estate in the care of John Maclean of Gruline and went to America.1 In 1779 after promotion to Captain, he quarrelled with his commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Allan Maclean of Torloisk and in was sentenced by court martial to six months suspension, which the Secretary at War changed to dismissal from the service.1 In 1784 he left Canada to plead his case before the King.1

John Maclaine1

He gained the rank of Ensign in 1808 in the 79th Highlanders.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 73rd Regiment.1 In 1810 he went to Australia.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to his cousin Major-General Lachlan Macquarie, Governor of New South Wales between 1813 and 1815.1 He gave his name to the Maclaine Plains, Tasmania.1
