Sir John Lister-Kaye, 4th Bt. was baptised on 4 September 1697.3 He was the son of George Kaye and Dorothy Savile.3 He married, firstly, Ellen Wilkinson, daughter of John Wilkinson.3 He married, secondly, Dorothy Richardson, daughter of Richard Richardson, on 29 July 1730.1 He died on 5 April 1752 at age 54.1
He was given the name of John Kaye at birth.3 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.3 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Kaye, of Woodsome, co. York [E., 1642] on 10 July 1726.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for York between 1734 and 1740.3 He held the office of Alderman of York in 1735.3 He held the office of Lord-Mayor of York in 1737.3 He lived at Denby Grange, Yorkshire, England.3
