     Sir Richard Byam Martin, 5th Bt. was born on 28 April 1841 at Abbotts Ann, Hampshire, England.2 He was the son of Admiral Sir William Fanshawe Martin, 4th Bt. and Sophia Elizabeth Hurt.1 He married Catherine Knipe, daughter of William Beaumaris Knipe and Elizabeth Charlotte Cregoe-Colmore, on 20 July 1869 at Egg Buckland, Devon, England.2 He died on 28 February 1910 at age 68 at 7 The Esplanade, Plymouth, Devon, England.2
     He gained the title of 5th Baronet Martin.

     From 14 March 1826, her married name became Hardinge.2 From 23 October 1828, her married name became Taylor-Jones.

     He fought in the Walcheran Expedition in 1809.1 He fought in the Peninsula War.1 He fought in the War of 1812 between 1814 and 1815, in the New Orleans Campaign.1 He was Governor at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Crimean War, Commanding Engineer at the Siege of Sebastopol.1 He was Lieutenant-General and Colonel of the Royal Engineers in 1854.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)1
