     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [New Zealand] between 1930 and 1931, for Invercargill.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)¹ He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [New Zealand] in 1934.¹

     Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph George Ward, 1st Bt. was born on 26 April 1856 at Hawke Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia^G.¹ He was the son of William Thomas Ward and Hannah Dorney.¹ He married Theresa Dorothea de Smidt, daughter of Henry Joseph de Smidt, on 5 December 1883.¹ He died on 8 July 1930 at age 74.¹
     He was educated at Spring’s Academy, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia^G.¹ He was educated between 1863 and 1869 at Campbelltown School, Bluff, New Zealand^G.¹ He was He raised and commanded the Naval and Artillery Volunteers.² He was member and chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board.² He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) [New Zealand] in 1887.² He was awarded the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers’ Decoration (V.D.)² He held the office of Member of the House of Representatives (M.H.R.) [New Zealand] between 1887 and 1919, for Awarua.¹ He held the office of Colonial Secretary [New Zealand].² He held the office of Minister for Railways, Industries and Commerce [New Zealand].² He held the office of Postmaster-General [New Zealand] in 1887.² He held the office of Minister for Public Health [New Zealand].² He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1901.¹ He held the office of Prime Minister of New Zealand between 1906 and 1912.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1907.² He was created 1st Baronet Ward [U.K.] on 20 June 1911.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [New Zealand] between 1925 and 1930, for Invercargill.¹ He held the office of Prime Minister of New Zealand between 1928 and 1930.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1930.² He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.¹
     

     Theresa Dorothea de Smidt was the daughter of Henry Joseph de Smidt.² She married Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph George Ward, 1st Bt., son of William Thomas Ward and Hannah Dorney, on 5 December 1883.¹ She died on 7 February 1927.¹
     Her married name became Ward. She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)²

     Lucy Agnes Petre was born circa 1851. She was the daughter of Hon. Henry William Petre and Mary Ann Eleanor Walmesley.² She married Philip Wellesley Colley on 14 June 1871.¹ She died on 21 January 1923.¹
     Her married name became Colley.

     Philip Wellesley Colley married Lucy Agnes Petre, daughter of Hon. Henry William Petre and Mary Ann Eleanor Walmesley, on 14 June 1871.¹ He died on 19 April 1926.¹
