He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 1st Highland Light Infantry.1 He was Governor of Brixton Prison.1 He purchased Braidwood, which he inherited by his parents’ 1879 marriage contract in 1926.1 He sold Braidwood in 1928 to David John Colville, 1st Baron Clydesmuir.1
