     Major Thomas Norcliffe Dalton was the son of Captain John Dalton and Elizabeth Lodge.^1,2 He married Frances Gabbett, daughter of John Gabbett and Frances Hallam, in 1845.¹ He died in 1854 at Alma, Russia^G, killed in action.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the 49th Foot.¹ He fought in the Crimean War.¹
