Hon. Sir Charles Christopher Bowen was born on 29 August 1830 at Milford, County Mayo, Ireland.2 He was the son of Charles Bowen and Georgiana Lambert.3 He married Georgina Elizabeth Markham.4 He died on 12 December 1917 at age 87 at Riccarton, Christchurch, New Zealand.4
He lived at Middleton Grange, Canterbury, New Zealand.5 He emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand, arriving on 1850 on board the Charlotte Jane.2 He held the office of Member of the Canterbury Provincial Council between 1853 and 1865.2 He held the office of Minister of Justice [New Zealand] between 1874 and 1877.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) [New Zealand] between 1875 and 1881.2 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [New Zealand] between 1891 and 1917.2 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1910.4 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1914.1
