     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.2 He was educated at Geelong Grammer School, Geelong, Victoria, Australia.2 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1932 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He gained the rank of Major in the Life Guards.2 He fought in the Palestine Campaign between 1936 and 1939, where he was mentioned in dispatches.2 He fought in the Second World War.2
