     He was a practising Advocate.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Roxburgh, Berwick and Selkirk.1

     He graduated from Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He graduated from Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)1 He was appointed Fellow, Zoological Society (F.Z.S.) (Scotland.)1 He was awarded the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers’ Decoration (V.D.)1 He was a practising Writer to the Signet (W.S.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Army Service Corps (TA Reserves.)1
