He was educated at Bedford School, Bedford, Bedfordshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force.3 He fought in the Second World War.3 He gained the rank of Captain in 1943 in the Leicestershire Regiment.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Hartwell, of Dale Hall, Essex [U.K., 1805] on 24 November 1948.1
