     Alexander Gordon of Earlston was born in 1587.¹ He was the son of John Gordon of Earlston and Mary Chalmers.² He married Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of John Gordon, 2nd of Pennynghame, on 4 January 1612.¹ He died in November 1653.¹
     He was offered a baronetcy.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kirkcudbrightshire [Scotland].¹

     William Gordon, 1st of Carleton is the son of John Gordon of Earlston and Mary Chalmers.²

     James Gordon, 2nd of Carleton was the son of William Gordon, 1st of Carleton.² He died in 1688, having settled Carleton on his cousin John, unmarried.¹

     David Gordon is the son of John Gordon of Earlston and Mary Chalmers.²
     He lived at Gordonstown, Galloway, Scotland^G.¹

     Nathaniel Gordon, 4th of Carleton is the son of David Gordon.²

     Elizabeth Gordon is the daughter of John Gordon, 2nd of Pennynghame.² She married Alexander Gordon of Earlston, son of John Gordon of Earlston and Mary Chalmers, on 4 January 1612.¹

     John Gordon of Earlston, younger was the son of Alexander Gordon of Earlston and Elizabeth Gordon.² He married Jean Boswell, daughter of David Boswell.¹ He died on 29 October 1645, without issue.¹

     Jean Boswell is the daughter of David Boswell.² She married John Gordon of Earlston, younger, son of Alexander Gordon of Earlston and Elizabeth Gordon.¹
     Her married name became Gordon.
