He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.1 He was member of the Inter-Allied Military Mission Control Austria and Hungary between 1920 and 1921.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baronet Gethin, of Gethins Grot, co. Cork [I., 1665] on 17 June 1921.1 He was Officer in charge of the Royal Artillery Record and Pay Office between 1929 and 1933.2 He retired from the military, with the rank of Colonel, late of the Royal Artillery.1

He was educated at Oundle School, Oundle, Northamptonshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Gethin, of Gethins Grot, co. Cork [I., 1665] on 27 August 1946.1 He was registered as a Associate Member, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (A.M.I.Mech.E.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Electricial and Mechanical Engineers.1 He was OC of the No. 11 Vehicle Depot Workshops in 1957.1 He was an antique furniture restorer.1
