He was educated at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was Captain of the Scottish Rugby Union XV in 1908.1 He was director of Imperial Airways and BOAC.1 He was chairman of Anderson Green & Company and Orient Steam Navigation Company.1 He was chairman of the General Council British Shipping in 1944.1
