     John Forbes of Blackford was born on 19 September 1758.1 He was the son of Alexander Forbes of Blackford and Catherine Gordon.2 He married Anna Margaretta Gregory, daughter of Professor John Gregory and Hon. Elizabeth Forbes, on 9 September 1784.1 He died on 1 May 1840 at age 81.1

     Professor John Gregory married Hon. Elizabeth Forbes, daughter of William Forbes, 13th Lord Forbes and Dorothy Dale, in 1752.1
     He was professor of medicine at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He wrote the book A father’s legacy to his daughter.2 He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)3

     Anna Margaretta Gregory was born circa 1763.2 She was the daughter of Professor John Gregory and Hon. Elizabeth Forbes.3,1 She married John Forbes of Blackford, son of Alexander Forbes of Blackford and Catherine Gordon, on 9 September 1784.1 She died in 1825.2
     From 9 September 1784, her married name became Forbes.
