     James Rolland was born in 1802 at Western Luscor, Fife, ScotlandG.1 He was the son of Adam Rolland and Anne Newbigging.1,2 He married Maria Rebecca Stothert, daughter of William Stothert and Rebecca Thomson Monteith, on 21 April 1840 at St. Cuthbert’s Church, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1,2 He died in 1889 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1
     He was a practising Writer to the Signet (W.S.)1 He and Reverend William Stothert Rolland emigrated along with their children to New ZealandG arriving on 1859 on board Alpine.3 He held the office of Member of the Legislative Council (M.L.C.) [New Zealand] in 1865.1
