General Henry Joseph Pelly was born on 9 January 1818.1 He was the son of John Hinde Pelly and Elizabeth Lewis.2 He married Deborah Elizabeth Morris, daughter of John Morris, on 16 February 1850.1 He died in December 1891 at age 73.1
He was served in Scinde between 1840 and 1847.1 He fought in the Battle of Meanee, as Adjutant-General.1 He fought in the Battle of Hyderabad, as Adjutant-General.1 He gained the rank of General in the Bombay Staff Corps.1
