George Henry Hall, 1st Viscount Hall was born on 31 December 1881.1 He was the son of George Hall and Ann Guard.3 He married, firstly, Margaret Jones, daughter of William Jones, on 10 October 1910.3 He married, secondly, Alice Martha Walker, daughter of Ben Walker, on 29 January 1964.3 He died on 8 November 1965 at age 83.1
He was educated at Penrhiwceiber Elementary School, Penrhiwceiber, Wales.3 He was a coal miner between 1893 and 1911.3 He held the office of Member of Mountain Ash District Council between 1907 and 1923.3 He was a colliery check-weighman between 1911 and 1922.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare Division between 1922 and 1946.3 He held the office of Civil Lord of the Admiralty between 1929 and 1931.3 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies between May 1940 and February 1942.3 He held the office of Finance Secretary to the Admiralty between February 1942 and September 1943.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 1 July 1942.3 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs between September 1943 and May 1945.3 He held the office of Secretary of State for the Colonies between July 1945 and October 1946.3 He held the office of First Lord of the Admiralty between October 1946 and May 1951.3 He was created 1st Viscount Hall, of Cynon Valley, co.
