He was given the name of Barrington Bulkeley Douglas at birth.1 He was awarded the Royal Humane Society Medal in 1889 for saving a life.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1898.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)2 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.)2 He held the office of Lieutenant-Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Guernsey between 1903 and 1908.2 In 1908 his name was legally changed to Barrington Bulkeley Douglas-Campbell.2 In 1916 his name was legally changed to Barrington Bulkeley Campbell.2 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Blythswood, co. Renfrew [U.K., 1892] on 30 September 1916.1
