He was educated at Downside School, Bath, Somerset, EnglandG.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1934 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1947 and 1969.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1961.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1969.1
