     Charles Brownlow Cumberland was born on 21 May 1764.2 He was the son of Richard Cumberland and Elizabeth Ridge.1 He married Penelope Susannah Mathew, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Mathew and Lady Jane Bertie, on 23 October 1799 at St. James’ Church, London, England, in a with a dowry of £40,000 marriage.1,2 He died on 12 May 1835 at age 70.2 He was also reported to have died in 1828.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Horse Guards Blue.2
