     James Dewar was born circa 1725.¹ He was the son of John Dewar and Roberta Scott.^2,1 He married Ann Smith, daughter of Edmund Smith, on 12 April 1768.¹ He died on 9 February 1795.¹
     He was Captain of the The Warwick between 1759 and 1760.¹ He gained the rank of Captain between 1759 and 1768 in the Honourable East India Company Service, Naval Service.¹ He was Captain of the The Speaker between 1763 and 1767.¹ He lived between 1771 and 1775 at Bow Window House, Bromley, Kent, England^G.¹ He lived at Clapham, Surrey, England^G.¹ He also had two elder daughters who died in infancy.¹

     Edmund Smith lived at Clapham, Surrey, England^G.¹

     Ann Smith is the daughter of Edmund Smith.² She married James Dewar, son of John Dewar and Roberta Scott, on 12 April 1768.¹
     From 12 April 1768, her married name became Dewar.

     Robert Cuming Dewar was born in 1778.¹ He was the son of James Dewar and Ann Smith.² He married Isabella Battey West on 11 February 1802.¹ He died on 25 April 1853.¹
     In 1794 he taken prisoner by French while aboard the Lisbon Packet and imprisoned France until at least 1795.¹ He was member of Lloyd’s Committee in 1830.¹ He lived at Larkhall Lane, Clapham, Surrey, England^G.¹

     Isabella Battey West was born circa 1784.¹ She married Robert Cuming Dewar, son of James Dewar and Ann Smith, on 11 February 1802.¹ She died in July 1848.¹
     She was also known as Sibella.¹ She lived at Clapham, Surrey, England^G.¹ From 11 February 1802, her married name became Dewar.

     James Dewar was born on 3 June 1809.¹ He was the son of Robert Cuming Dewar and Isabella Battey West.² He married Mary Ann Johnstone, daughter of James Raymond Johnstone of Alva and Mary Elizabeth Cholmeley, on 30 October 1838.¹ He died on 24 February 1870 at age 60.¹
     He was an insurance broker and member of Lloyd’s in 1851.¹ He lived at Charles Street, Lowndes Square, London, England^G.¹

     John Johnstone was born on 28 April 1734.¹ He was the son of Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall, 3rd Bt. and Hon. Barbara Murray.¹ He married Elizabeth Caroline Keene, daughter of Colonel unknown Keene, on 1 September 1765.¹ He died on 10 December 1795 at age 61.¹
     He fought in the Battle of Plassey on 23 June 1757, where he commanded the artillery.¹ He was a nabob.¹ He purchased Alva, Stirlingshire, and other large estates in Scotland.¹

     Mary Ann Johnstone was the daughter of James Raymond Johnstone of Alva and Mary Elizabeth Cholmeley.² She married James Dewar, son of Robert Cuming Dewar and Isabella Battey West, on 30 October 1838.¹ She married James Dewar in 1839.² She died on 9 September 1892.¹
     From 30 October 1838, her married name became Dewar.

     Lt.-Col. James Raymond Johnstone Dewar was born on 30 January 1840.¹ He was the son of James Dewar and Mary Ann Johnstone.² He married Caroline Emily Phayre, daughter of General Sir Robert Phayre, on 20 August 1868.¹ He died on 16 May 1890 at age 50.¹
     He was educated at Merchant Taylors’ School, London, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1875 in the Royal Horse Artillery.¹ He fought in the Afghan War between 1879 and 1880.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Bengal Artillery.¹ He fought in the Relief of Kandahar in 1881, where he was mentioned in despatches.¹ He retired from the military in 1885.¹
