Sir Thomas Lane Devitt, 1st Bt. was born on 28 March 1839.1 He was the son of Thomas Henry Devitt and Margaret Lane.2 He married Fanny Theodora Pye-Smith, daughter of Ebenezer Pye-Smith, on 26 February 1863.1 He died on 8 December 1923 at age 84.1
He was senior partner of Devitt and Moore.1 He was Founder of Devitt and Moore Nautical College, Pangbourne.1 He was President of the Institute of Shipbrokers.1 He was chairman of Lloyd’s Register Shipping between 1909 and 1920.1 He was created 1st Baronet Devitt, of Chelsea, in the County of London [U.K.] on 4 July 1916.1
