     Alice Jane Algar was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. James Sturgeon Hamilton Algar and Jane de Nully.^2,3 She married William Plunket Cairnes, son of Thomas Plunket Cairnes and Sophia Gaussen, on 1 December 1886.¹ She died on 27 December 1952.¹
     From 1 December 1886, her married name became Cairnes.

     Lt.-Col. Tom Algar Elliot Cairnes was born on 7 June 1888.¹ He was the son of William Plunket Cairnes and Alice Jane Algar.² He married Katharine Florentia Hosken, daughter of Lt.-Col. Arthur Fayrer Hosken, on 29 July 1924.¹ He died on 5 November 1960 at age 72.¹

     Major Francis Herbert Cairnes was born on 8 July 1893.¹ He was the son of William Plunket Cairnes and Alice Jane Algar.² He married, firstly, Margaret Marian Agnes Edmunds, daughter of Lewis Humfrey Edmunds, on 27 August 1919.¹ He and Margaret Marian Agnes Edmunds were divorced in 1931.¹ He married, secondly, Vera Muriel Wood, daughter of Charles William Wood, on 17 August 1937.¹ He died on 12 March 1963 at age 69.¹

     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was with the Royal Navy between 1944 and 1947.¹ He was educated at Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter, Penryn, Cornwall, England^G.¹ He was registered as a ACSM in 1950.¹ He was educated at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada^G.¹ He was a Construction Mining & Industrial Engineer.¹ He was registered as a MEng in 1956.¹ He lived in 1976 at 80 Yarrabung Road, St. Ives, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia^G.¹
