     He was educated at Gordonstoun School, Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Engineers.¹

     Commander Richard Herbert Townsend was born in 1879.¹ He was the son of Richard Hungerford Townsend and Arabella Jane Denny.² He married Phyllis Marion Gathorne Hill, daughter of Charles Hill.¹ He died on 31 May 1916, killed in action.¹
     He was educated at Royal Naval College, Osborne, Isle of Wight, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Invincible.¹ He fought in the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916.¹

     Phyllis Marion Gathorne Hill was the daughter of Charles Hill.² She married Commander Richard Herbert Townsend, son of Richard Hungerford Townsend and Arabella Jane Denny.¹
     Her married name became Townsend. She lived in 1976 at Fairhaven, Batheaston, Somerset, England^G.¹

     Barbara Townsend was the daughter of Commander Richard Herbert Townsend and Phyllis Marion Gathorne Hill.² She died on 4 April 1970, unmarried.¹

     Patricia Malvina Audrey Townsend was the daughter of Commander Richard Herbert Townsend and Phyllis Marion Gathorne Hill.² She died on 23 November 2009.³
     She lived in 1976 at Fairhaven, Batheaston, Somerset, England^G.¹

     Reverend Henry Denny Townsend was born in 1881.¹ He was the son of Richard Hungerford Townsend and Arabella Jane Denny.² He died on 25 March 1949.¹
     He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland^G, in 1903 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He held the office of Rural Dean of Cloyne in 1937.¹

     Sophia Elizabeth Townsend is the daughter of Richard Hungerford Townsend and Arabella Jane Denny.² She married Reverend William Tozer.¹
     Her married name became Tozer.

     Reverend William Tozer married Sophia Elizabeth Townsend, daughter of Richard Hungerford Townsend and Arabella Jane Denny.¹
     He had one son and one daughter.¹ He lived at Lincolnshire, England^G.¹

     Helen Agnes Joan Townsend is the daughter of Richard Hungerford Townsend and Arabella Jane Denny.² She married Lt.-Col. Charles Frank Rundall, son of J. W. Rundall, in 1901.¹
     Helen Agnes Joan Townsend usually went by her middle name of Joan.¹ From 1901, her married name became Rundall.
