He fought in the Zulu War between 1879 and 1880.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1879 in the Royal Scots Fusiliers.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baron Saye and Sele [E., 1603] on 8 October 1907.1 In 1912 Comptroller Household , High Steward City of Oxford 1930.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Household between 1912 and 1915.1 He fought in the First World War, as Area Commandant, Flanders.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, Middlesex County Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.1 He held the office of High Steward of the City of Oxford in 1930.1
