     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in 1914 in the The Black Watch.¹ He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919, where he was twice wounded.¹ He was a Fellow between 1919 and 1922 at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ He was Sir William Dunn Reader in Biochemistry between 1922 and 1932 at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G.¹ He was Professor of Genetics between 1932 and 1937 at London University, London, England^G.¹ He was Professor of Biochemistry between 1937 and 1964 at University College London, London, England^G.¹ He was chairman of the editorial board of the Daily Worker between 1940 and 1949.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) by Groningen University, Groningen, The Netherlands^G, in 1946.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Docteur by Paris, France^G, in 1948.¹

     Charlotte Franken was the daughter of Joseph Franken.² She married John Burdon Sanderson Haldane, son of John Scott Haldane and Louisa Kathleen Trotter, on 11 May 1926.¹ She and John Burdon Sanderson Haldane were divorced in 1945.¹ She died on 16 March 1969.¹
     From 11 May 1926, her married name became Haldane.

     Lieutenant Richard Spread was the son of John Spread and Anastatia Earbury.¹ He died in 1794 at Bergen-op-Zoom, Brabant, The Netherlands^G.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 87th Foot.¹

     Anstace Spread is the daughter of John Spread and Anastatia Earbury.¹ She married Hugh Cox in 1794.¹
     From 1794, her married name became Cox.¹

     Sir William Stowell Haldane was born on 19 August 1864 at St. George, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.^1,2 He was the son of Robert Haldane and Mary Elizabeth Burdon-Sanderson.³ He married Margaret Edith Stuart Nelson, daughter of Thomas Nelson and Jessie K. Kemp, on 29 June 1892.¹ He died on 7 November 1951 at age 87 at Cloan, Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland.^1,2
     He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G, with a Bachelor of Law (B.L.)¹ He was a practising Writer to the Signet (W.S.) in 1888 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was Crown Agent [Scotland] and Prison Commissioner between 1905 and 1917.¹ He was Commissioner under the Development Fund Act between 1910 and 1930.¹ He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1912.¹

     Thomas Nelson was born on 25 December 1822 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.² He was the son of Thomas Nelson and Margaret Sibbald Black.² He married Jessie K. Kemp, daughter of James Kemp and Agnes Finnie, on 30 April 1868 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.^3,4 He died on 20 October 1892 at age 69 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.⁴

     Margaret Edith Stuart Nelson was born circa 1871 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.² She was the daughter of Thomas Nelson and Jessie K. Kemp.^3,2 She married Sir William Stowell Haldane, son of Robert Haldane and Mary Elizabeth Burdon-Sanderson, on 29 June 1892.¹ She died on 13 November 1943 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.^1,2
     From 29 June 1892, her married name became Haldane.

     Lieutenant Robert Patrick Haldane was born on 21 July 1893.¹ He was the son of Sir William Stowell Haldane and Margaret Edith Stuart Nelson.² He died on 13 June 1915 at age 21 at France^G, from wounds received in action near Festubert.¹

     Lt.-Cdr. Thomas Graeme Nelson Haldane was born on 14 December 1897.¹ He was the son of Sir William Stowell Haldane and Margaret Edith Stuart Nelson.² He married Leslie Janet Wilkie, daughter of Leon Wilkie, in 1942.¹ He died on 24 June 1981 at age 83 at Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland.³
