     Sir Stanley Herbert Howard was born on 17 April 1888.² He was the son of Major Walter Howard.² He married, firstly, Mary Anne Fergusson in 1913.² He married, secondly, Kathleen Muriel Kavanagh in 1918.² He and Kathleen Muriel Kavanagh were divorced in 1924.² He married, thirdly, Florence Kathleen Turner, daughter of William Turner, in 1937.¹ He died on 23 December 1968 at age 80.²
     Sir Stanley Herbert Howard usually went by his middle name of Herbert.¹ He was educated at St. George’s School, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe^G.² He graduated from Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)² He was with the Imperial Forest Service in 1911.² He was Imperial Silviculturist between 1919 and 1926.² He wrote the book Forest Pocket Book, published 1927.² He was Inspector-General of Forests to teh Government of India between 1940 and 1946.² He was appointed Knight in 1943.²
