John Addington Symonds1 

John Addington Symonds was born in 1840 at Bristol, England.2,4 He was the son of John Addington Symonds and Harriet Sykes.4 He married Janet Catherine North, daughter of Frederick North and Janet Marjoribanks, on 10 November 1864 at Hastings, Sussex, England.1,2 He died in 1893 at Rome, Italy.1,2
He was a poet and art historian.1

He was commissioned in June 1803 with the rank of Ensign, in the service of the 19th Regiment.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1805.3 He gained the rank of Captain in August 1805.3 He gained the rank of Major in August 1819.3 He was an explorer.2 He gained the rank of Major in August 1824 in the 57th Regiment.3 He and Sarah Morris emigrated to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, arriving on April 1825.3 In August 1825 he explored the Brisbane River for 150 miles, on instructions from the Governor of New South Wales.3 He lived at Lockyersleigh, New South Wales, AustraliaG.1
