He married, firstly, Eliza Potter, daughter of Stephen Potter and Charlotte Hill, on 25 June 1889 at Weslyan Church, Ashburton, New ZealandG.3 He and Eliza Potter were divorced after 1900.1 He married, secondly, Florence Ellen Sorrell, daughter of Charles Sorrell and Sarah Lawes, on 26 December 1906 at Residence of Charles Sorrell, Napier, New ZealandG.4 He died on 15 August 1949 at Napier Public Hospital, Napier, New ZealandG, senile myocardial degeneration.5 He was buried on 17 August 1949 at Park Island Cemetery, Napier, New ZealandG.5
