     He gained the rank of Major-General in the Royal Engineers.¹

     Frederick McCausland was the son of Conolly McCausland and Sarah McCausland.² He married Theodosia Stirling, daughter of John Stirling, on 21 January 1814.²

     General W. J. Smythe married Sarah Maria Bland, daughter of Reverend Robert Wintringham Bland and Alicia Evans, on 15 December 1857.¹ He died in 1887.¹
