     He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England^G.² He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G.² He fought in the First World War, as a Captain in the 5th Battalion of he Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1916.¹

     Ethel Barrow Welldon was the daughter of James Turner Welldon.¹ She married Captain Charles Geoffrey Barton, son of Colonel Baptist Johnston Barton and Isabel McClintock, on 27 March 1915.¹ She died in 1971.¹
     From 27 March 1915, her married name became Barton.¹

     Carol Barton was born on 25 December 1915.¹ She is the daughter of Captain Charles Geoffrey Barton and Ethel Barrow Welldon.¹ She married Lt. Col. Richard William Shepherd, son of Thomas Dowkere Shepherd, on 9 August 1941, they were the parents of two sons and one daughter.¹
     She was educated at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ From 9 August 1941, her married name became Shepherd.¹
