He was given the name of Charles Ball-Acton at birth but he relinquished this surname by Deed Poll.2 He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He lived at Carrickmines Station, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 In September 1939 his name was legally changed to Charles Acton by Deed Poll.1 He was a music critic.1 He held the office of Governor Royal of the Irish Academy of Music between 1954 and 1956.1 He was a senior critic for the Irish Times from 1955.1 He lived at Stradbrook House, Blackrock, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Coulson Governor after 1957.1 He was Administrator of the Music Scheme of Cultural Relations Committee in 1969.1 He was Vice-President of the Association for Promotion of Music in Education in 1970.1 He also was a a lecturer, broadcaster, with some time in the travel, charcoal, encyclopaedia and harvesting businesses.1 He lived at Kilmacurragh, Rathdrum, County Wicklow, IrelandG, which he sold in 1944.1 As of 1976, Charles Acton lived at Critic’s Circle, London, EnglandG.1

His last will was dated 1645, witnessed by his wife.1 Thomas of Bog Hall, at Ballygannonbeg and Kilcandra, County Wicklow, (part of the lands of Kilmacurragh), mentioned in Hearth Roll of 1669 as having one hearth at Kilcandra.1
