     Sir Robert Maitland of Thirlestane and Levington was born circa 1369.¹ He was the son of John Maitland of Thirlestane and Levington and Agnes Dunbar.² He married Marion Abernethy.¹ He died in 1434.³
     He was appointed Knight between 1387 and 1390.³

     Charles Acton was born on 25 April 1914.¹ He is the son of Major Reginald Thomas Annesley Ball-Acton and Isabel Richmond.² He married Carol Little, daughter of Francis Thompson Little, on 6 March 1951.¹
     He was given the name of Charles Ball-Acton at birth but he relinquished this surname by Deed Poll.² He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G.¹ He lived at Carrickmines Station, County Dublin, Ireland^G.¹ In September 1939 his name was legally changed to Charles Acton by Deed Poll.¹ He was a music critic.¹ He held the office of Governor Royal of the Irish Academy of Music between 1954 and 1956.¹ He was a senior critic for the Irish Times from 1955.¹ He lived at Stradbrook House, Blackrock, County Dublin, Ireland^G.¹ He held the office of Coulson Governor after 1957.¹ He was Administrator of the Music Scheme of Cultural Relations Committee in 1969.¹ He was Vice-President of the Association for Promotion of Music in Education in 1970.¹ He also was a a lecturer, broadcaster, with some time in the travel, charcoal, encyclopaedia and harvesting businesses.¹ He lived at Kilmacurragh, Rathdrum, County Wicklow, Ireland^G, which he sold in 1944.¹ As of 1976, Charles Acton lived at Critic’s Circle, London, England^G.¹

     Carol Little is the daughter of Francis Thompson Little.¹ She married Charles Acton, son of Major Reginald Thomas Annesley Ball-Acton and Isabel Richmond, on 6 March 1951.¹
     She was registered as a Licentiate, Royal Academy of Music (L.R.A.M.)¹ From 6 March 1951, her married name became Acton.¹

     Francis Thompson Little held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ He lived at Clabby, County Fermanagh, Ireland^G.¹

     Thomas Acton married Alice Coventry.¹
     His last will was dated 1645, witnessed by his wife.¹ Thomas of Bog Hall, at Ballygannonbeg and Kilcandra, County Wicklow, (part of the lands of Kilmacurragh), mentioned in Hearth Roll of 1669 as having one hearth at Kilcandra.¹
