He was educated at H.M.S. Britannia, EnglandG.1 He was commanding officer of the H.M.A.S. Cairo, East India Station.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1924.1 He was commander of the Devonport Gunnery School between 1927 and 1929.1 He was Director of Training and Staff Duties between 1929 and 1931.1 He was commanding officer of the H.M.S. Repulse between 1931 and 1932.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to King George V between 1932 and 1933.1 He gained the rank of Convoy Commodore in the Royal Naval Reserve.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was menioned in despatches.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1943.1
