     Janet Bell married John Fergusson, son of James Fergusson, on 18 December 1762.¹
     Her married name became Fergusson.

     James Fergusson was born on 7 January 1766.¹ He was the son of John Fergusson and Janet Bell.² He married Elizabeth Hodge, daughter of Andrew Hodge, in 1793.¹ He died on 17 June 1834 at age 68.¹
     He lived at Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland^G.¹

     Andrew Hodge lived at Anstruther, Fife, Scotland^G.¹

     Elizabeth Hodge was born circa 1767.¹ She was the daughter of Andrew Hodge.² She married James Fergusson, son of John Fergusson and Janet Bell, in 1793.¹ She died in January 1818.¹
     From 1793, her married name became Fergusson.

     Sir William Fergusson, 1st Bt. was born on 20 March 1808.¹ He was the son of James Fergusson and Elizabeth Hodge.³ He married Helen Hamilton Ranken, daughter of William Ranken of Spitalhaugh, on 10 October 1833.¹ He died on 10 February 1877 at age 68.¹
     He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.)¹ He was Professor of Surgery at King’s College Hospital, London, England^G.¹ He held the office of President of the Royal College of Surgeons.¹ He was Surgeon to HRH Prince Consort.¹ He was Serjeant Surgeon to HM Queen Victoria.¹ He wrote the book System of Practical Surgery.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Fergusson, of Spitalhaugh, co. Peebles [U.K.] on 23 January 1866.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.)¹

     Helen Hamilton Ranken was the daughter of William Ranken of Spitalhaugh.² She married Sir William Fergusson, 1st Bt., son of James Fergusson and Elizabeth Hodge, on 10 October 1833.¹ She died on 19 June 1861.¹
     From 10 October 1833, her married name became Fergusson.

     Sir James Ranken Fergusson, 2nd Bt. was born on 10 August 1835.¹ He was the son of Sir William Fergusson, 1st Bt. and Helen Hamilton Ranken.² He married, firstly, Mary Ann Somes Colyer, daughter of Thomas Colyer, on 13 December 1862.¹ He married, secondly, Louisa Forbes, daughter of William Forbes of Medwyn and Mary Anne Houblon, on 17 October 1877.¹ He married, thirdly, Alice Fanny Simpson, daughter of John Price Simpson, on 1 June 1886.² He died on 28 October 1924 at age 89.²
     He was a practising barrister.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.)¹ He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Peebles-shire.¹ He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Peebles-shire.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Fergusson, of Spitalhaugh, co. Peebles [U.K., 1866] on 10 February 1877.¹

     Major Charles Hamilton Fergusson was born on 27 May 1849.¹ He was the son of Sir William Fergusson, 1st Bt. and Helen Hamilton Ranken.² He died on 23 May 1913 at age 63.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the Seaforth Highlanders.¹

     Katherine Hamilton Fergusson was born circa 1840.¹ He was the son of Sir William Fergusson, 1st Bt. and Helen Hamilton Ranken.² He died on 23 December 1932, unmarried.¹
