According to D.N.B., he was son of Robert COlville of Ochitree and Margaret Logan, whcih would make hioma brother of Sir Robert Colville of Hiltoun, not son.3 He held the office of Comptroller of the Household [Scotland] in 1526.1 In 1530 he obtained Easter Wemyss from Sir James Hamilton of Finnart in exchange for Ochiltree.1 He held the office of Judge of the Court of Session in 1532.1 In 1540/41 he was attainted for treason.1
